Athlete Assistance Program

Every year Football Saskatchewan provides Athlete Assistance Awards to players from the Regina Riot, Saskatoon Valkyrie, Saskatoon Hilltops, Regina Thunder, University of Regina Rams and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. Each program is asked to rank their athlete assistance nominees based on the following criteria:

A) Method of Selecting Each Programs Elite Athletes

I. Awards for team, league
II. All Star recognition
III. Previous year statistics

B) Academic Rating

I. Qualify academically for admission
II. Full time student at a post secondary school with a course load recognized by the institution
III. They must remain a level of academic standard that is sufficient for readmission the following year.

C) Graduating High School Players

One of our goals is to encourage Saskatchewan athletes to live and train in the province. Thus we have given our graduating high school players an opportunity to receive an athlete assistance award, providing he plays for one of our four elite programs. Each elite team must provide athlete assistance grants to a minimum of two graduating high school players.

These Graduates can only be graded on their potential; very few players have come out of high school to become starters on their (4) elite teams. These athletes will be chosen on the following evaluations:

I. Previous football season
II. Evaluated by coaches at the four elite teams’ spring camps

III. Evaluated at the annual High school Senior Bowl Game.
