Extra Point - Winter 2017

Hopefully the snow will disappear fast as we have work to do in 2017! 2016 was a very successful year for all of our programs and this is a direct result of the time and commitment made by all of our members. So in return, we thank you for your commitment and dedication to the sport of football as well as developing Saskatchewan’s youth!!

Football Saskatchewan and its members are pleased to announce that Saskatchewan will be participating in the 2016 Football Canada Cup.  Players must be born in 2000 or 2001 to be eligible to play with our U18 Team Saskatchewan program.

The Football Canada Cup will be held July 8-15 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Saskatchewan practices will run from July 1st – 5th prior to departing for Wolfville.  All tournament games will be held at Acadia University.  Teams will play 3 games, while scheduling ensures teams at least two full days rest between games.

Football Saskatchewan’s mandate is to bring together representative individuals from our membership to compete in the Football Canada Cup.  With this in mind, we firmly believe that the outstanding talent base of players and coaches in the province gives Saskatchewan a legitimate opportunity to realize success on a national stage.

The Saskatchewan roster will include a maximum of 40 players who will be chosen by the U18 Saskatchewan Coaching staff.  These evaluations and subsequent selections will be made through the new U18 Team Saskatchewan open tryout format. It will be similar to the Senior Bowl format. Camp dates are May 13th (North), May 14th (South), June 3rd & 4th, and July 1st – 5th. Here is the U18 Team Saskatchewan Coaching Staff, which has numerous years of experience at the Minor, High School, and Post Secondary levels.

Registration for prospective players will only be done online.  Players and coaches should be notified that some costs will be incurred to cover accommodation, training, travel, meals and other miscellaneous expenses.  With this in mind, player fundraising and sponsorship is an important and necessary venture to reduce player fees.  A package outlining these details will be available in the coming weeks.

If you have any questions or inquiries regarding the Football Canada Cup, please contact Mike Thomas at (306) 780-9239, or by email at

Talk it over with the other coaches in your area and if you wish to schedule a visual equipment inspection please contact Mike Thomas in Regina at (306) 780-9239, Jeff Yausie in Saskatoon at (306) 975-0827, or Brad Herschmiller at (306) 536-2637.  This is a great opportunity for you to utilize the experience and expertise of Brad Herschmiller.
