U17 Team Sask Coaching Staff Announcement

By Football Saskatchewan, 11/04/16, 4:45PM CST

Football Saskatchewan is excited to announce the coaching staff for its 2017 Under-17 (U17) Team Saskatchewan, which will square off against Team USA at the 2017 International Bowl in Arlington, TX on January 16, 2017.

Team Saskatchewan U17 will be led by Head Coach Terry Braman, from Watrous, SK.

University of Regina Rams offensive coordinator Mark McConkey will be calling U17 Team Sask’s offensive plays. After a record setting career as a receiver University of Regina Rams, McConkey began his teaching career at Balgonie High School. He worked with quarterbacks and receivers as a high school co-offensive coordinator, before quickly moving on to coaching receivers at the University of Regina, soon also assuming the position of that team’s Academic Resource Coach.

Joining McConkey is University of Regina Ram’s colleague Mark Becker. Becker has served as a coach in Saskatchewan for over 27 years, generously donating his time to athletics programs at all levels, including a number of Regina Minor Football programs and high school football teams, as well as with U18 Team Saskatchewan as an associate coach the past 2 years.

Saskatoon’s Aden Bowman Bear’s offensive coordinator Chad Palmer joins U17 Team Sask as quarterback coach, a role he has played previously for both U18 Team Saskatchewan and U16 Team North Saskatchewan. Palmer began his coaching career at Bedford Road, working with their team’s offensive line. He’s a long time coach of the Saskatoon Valkyries, and has enjoyed success in various roles with Women’s Team Saskatchewan and Women’s Team Canada.

Jeff Stusek will be working with U17 Team Sask’s running-backs and coordinating special teams. Stusek donates his time to RMF as a head coach and evaluator, and has been integral to the success of the U16 South Saskatchewan team, for which he has acted as head coach and offensive coordinator.  In 2016 Stusek was the special teams-coordinator at the Canada Cup with Team Saskatchewan, bringing home a silver medal. He currently coaches at Campbell Collegiate.

U17 Team Sask’s 2017 defensive coordinator has over 30 years experience coaching at the high school and CIS level. Paul Dawson was involved with the Regina Rams as a running back coach in 1996 and stayed with the team as they transitioned from the CJFL to the CIS. In 2001 he took on the role of Rams defensive coordinator, a role he would hold for the next 14 years.

Working with Dawson will be Joel Lipinski (defensive backs) and Garrett Glasrud (defensive line).

Former Saskatchewan Roughrider Joel Lipinski is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. In 2009 Lipinski coached defensive backs at the University of Ottawa. He has coached the U16 Team North Saskatchewan since 2013 holding various positions on the defense including defensive backs coach, linebackers coach and defensive coordinator.

Garrett Glasrud is currently the head coach of his alma mater, the Shaunavon Shadows, proudly leading them to a provincial title in 2015. Garrett is a former U18 Team Saskatchewan and Senior Bowl participant who went on to play for four years at Montana State University Northern. He’s coached at numerous all-star games in the province including the Senior Bowl and Saskota Bowl.
