NATIONAL COMPETITION RETURNS NEXT SUMMER

October 22, 2021

OTTAWA – Football Canada announced the schedule for its 2022 domestic championships, with nine events scheduled across both the tackle and flag disciplines. The domestic events are being held for the first time since 2019, as the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 schedules being cancelled.

“We are thrilled to be able to host our championships again,” said Shannon Donovan, executive director of Football Canada. “We are looking forward to seeing athletes from across the country once again participate at a regional and national level.”

The schedule kicks off in May, with the first-ever Collegiate flag championship in Ottawa.

Tackle takes center stage in July, highlighted by the return of the Football Canada Cup in Kelowna, B.C., from July 9-17. The Under-16 challenges are later in the month, with the Western Challenge to be held in B.C., and the Eastern Challenge from July 19-24 in Sackville, N.B. The inaugural Women’s Under-18 tackle championship will be July 24-August 1 in Regina.

The flag championships get under way from July 29-31 in Winnipeg, with the U-16 Western Regionals. The U-16 Eastern Regionals will be held concurrently with the U-18 and U-20 national championships, from August 9-14 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Further details on the championships, as well as the schedule for the Canadian Flag Football League, will follow.
