Host British Columbia, Quebec and Saskatchewan win gold at 2017 Flag Nationals

Sask wins 1 gold & 2 silver at Nationals

Vancouver, BC (August 14, 2017) - In an action packed Sunday afternoon at University of British Columbia's (UBC) Thunderbirds Stadium, medals were awarded in all four divisions at the 2017 Football Canada Flag Nationals.

In the under-16 Male Division, British Columbia Orange edged British Columbia White 20-18 to win the gold medal.  British Columbia White settled for silver while Alberta takes home the bronze after defeating Manitoba 33-25.

Saskatchewan Green finished fifth the consolation round-robin as the team was undefeated in both their games.  Saskatchewan White ended the tournament in sixth place while Nova Scotia was seventh.

Tournament MVPs for the under-16 Male Division were British Columbia Orange's Isaac Athans  (offence) and British Columbia White's Josh Baba (defence).

Quebec Blue won the gold medal in the under-16 Female Division after cruising to a 36-28 victory over Saskatchewan Green.  In the bronze medal game, Quebec Red coasted to a 27-14 win over Saskatchewan White.  Alberta ended the tournament in fifth place.

Saskatchewan White's Hannah Sexsmith (offence) and Quebec Blue's Morgan Desjardins were selected as tournament MVP's. 

In the under-18 Male Division, host British Columbia gave the home crowd something to cheer about as they won the gold medal after earning a 45-25 win over Saskatchewan.  Manitoba sailed past Nova Scotia 48-12 to take the bronze medal.  Quebec finished the tournament in fifth place after winning their consolation game against Ontario 24-13.

Tournament MVPs were Saskatchewan's Bennett Stusek (offence) and Manitoba's Brayden Smith (defence).

Finally, Saskatchewan won gold in the under-18 Female Division after defeating Quebec 19-12.  In one of the most exciting games of the day, Ontario squeezed out a 20-18 win over Nova Scotia to take home the bronze. 

Manitoba defeated New Brunswick 33-13 in the consolation game to take fifth place in the tournament.

Nova Scotia's Emma Garagan (offence) and Ashley de Sousa Martins (defence) were named tournament MVPs.
